Digitizer vendorRadiographic Digital Imaging has released XPACS, a new PACS network. XPACS is available in a software-only package, or as a fully functional PACS with a redundant array of independent disks (RAID) archive and backup hardware.
Initial configurations can be structured to store 40 gigabytes up to 40 terabytes of image data, according to the Torrance, CA-based firm. XPACS interfaces with RDI's XSCAN32 teleradiology software and any other DICOM-compatible viewing workstation, according to RDI.
XPACS supports a hierarchical storage management (HSM) approach to archiving and compression. Included is a DICOM print server plug-in with a built-in image composer, which can interface with existing DICOM 3.0-compliant film printers or convert any desktop printer into a DICOM 3.0 print object, according to RDI.
RDI can also configure XPACS to include a scheduler function, which stores images in the main archive and automatically forwards them to several locations at once. As a result, all studies can be stored at the main storage vault and then distributed to the appropriate reading workstations for analysis, according to the company.
