Medical imaging software developer DesAcc has introduced Digital Jacket 2001, a desktop software package for patient image management and review. Designed for single users, small groups, and members of large hospital environments, Digital Jacket 2001 is designed to act as a personal image archive for any user working with medical imaging data, according to the Chicago-based firm.
Digital Jacket 2001 is built around DesAcc's object database, which allows DICOM data to be archived in a user-definable folder hierarchy with scalable storage of thousands of patient studies, according to the company. Each account can be set with its own user name, password, and DICOM inbox address, allowing users to create their own archives, according to the firm.
Each archive can be configured with its own authorized user access list, and then shared with other users in a peer-to-peer mode within their local area network or over the Internet. Digital Jacket 2001 can also be set up as a client/server product, where a central copy of the application acts as the archive server for multiple local or remote clients. Patient data can be transmitted to other DICOM compliant devices, either as DICOM files or as HTML, according to DesAcc.
The application includes four image review modes: thumbnail, multiformat view, cine, and HTML mode. Digital Jacket 2001 also provides native support for x-ray film scanners from vendors such as Lumisys/Eastman Kodak, Howtek, and Vidar Systems.
