IDX gets first PACS sale

IDX Systems has signed an agreement to provide enterprise-wide radiology image and information management to Geisinger Health System in Danville, PA. Geisinger will be deploying the Burlington, VT-based vendor's Web-based medical and information management offering, which includes IDX's Imaging Suite workflow technology with partner Stentor's iSite image distribution product.

Geisinger, a long-time IDX customer, performs 250,000 radiology exams annually at its two medical centers. The order marks IDX's entry into the PACS marketplace, according to the company.

In other customer news, IDX will be providing its LastWord enterprise information package to Parkview Health. Indiana-based Parkview Health will be using LastWord to handle clinical, radiology, administrative, and financial functions for its six hospital facilities in northeastern Indiana, as well as the health organization's network of outpatient clinics and affiliated physician practices, according to IDX.

IDX also reported strong revenue growth in its second quarter. For the quarter (end-June 30), IDX had revenues of $101.4 million, up 28% compared with the $79.6 million booked last year. IDX had a net income of $1 million, compared with a net loss of $9 million, excluding a nonrecurring charge, in the same period last year.
