Fonar subsidiary Health Management Corporation of America (HMCA) has purchased a large-scale PACS network from eMed Technologies of Lexington, MA. HCMA, Fonar's physician and diagnostic services entity, will replace its current image management network with the eMed system.
HMCA began using teleradiology to centralize radiologist coverage in its New York facility, and today manages 22 diagnostic imaging centers, which are digitally archiving and managing over 25,000 new images every week, according to Melville, NY-based Fonar. An enterprise-wide PACS will be installed in phases, beginning with primary diagnostic teleradiology and archiving. eMed technology will be installed at all HMCA-managed sites, and will include additional diagnostic reading in regional locations and Web-enabled distribution of imaging results to referring practitioners, according to Fonar.
