PACS vendor Agfa-Gevaert has signed an agreement to acquire a 25% interest in ophthalmic digital imaging developer MediVision Medical Imaging. Under terms of the agreement, Mortsel, Belgium-based Agfa and MediVision will jointly develop, promote, and market a combined, integrated digital ophthalmology PACS network.
The PACS will be composed of Agfa’s Impax viewing stations, archive, associated software, and networking systems, along with MediVision’s digital imaging systems and software for ophthalmology. The firms will begin their marketing efforts in the U.S., in cooperation with MediVision's U.S. subsidiary Ophthalmic Imaging Systems.
In other news, Agfa-Gevaert has appointed John Glass to its board of management. Glass will be responsible for the firm's healthcare business group , which combines HealthCare Imaging and HealthCare Informatics. He will also be responsible for the company's NAFTA region.
