The Society for Computer Applications in Radiology is sponsoring a special session of its SCAR University educational program dedicated to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) at next month’s RSNA meeting. Called "HIPAA: The Absolute Essentials -- 501 Days and Counting," the course will be chaired by Dr. Eliot Siegel, director of diagnostic imaging at the VA Medical Center in Baltimore.
Other panelists will include information technology experts, a private-practice radiologist, a representative from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and legal experts in HIPAA risk management, according to the Great Falls, VA-based SCAR. A HIPAA handbook featuring practical tips and useful resources will accompany the session and will be available to all attendees at the course, which is scheduled for 10:30-12:00 on November 29 at McCormick Place's Room E351.
In other SCAR news, the society is releasing the third book in its primer series at the RSNA meeting. The new book, Quality Assurance: Meeting the Challenge in the Digital Medical Enterprise, is edited by Siegel, Dr. Bruce Reiner, and Dr. John Carrino, and will be available for purchase at SCAR's RSNA booth.
