RealTimeImage to participate in French mammo study

Image streaming provider RealTimeImage will be using its technology in a French breast cancer study conducted by the non-profit Association of Screening Mammography in Poitou-Charentes (ADMPC). The study will examine the impact of digital acquisition, streaming, and transfer of breast images of women in the rural Poitou-Charentes (Cognac) region for remote reading at university centers and specialized clinics, according to RealTimeImage of San Bruno, CA.

The three-year ADMPC study, which will be funded by the French social security system, will include 90,000 patients at three local private imaging centers with radiologists specializing in full-field digital mammography (FFDM). Images will be acquired digitally and read at the local imaging centers, which have been equipped with the vendor's iPACS Prism short-term archive.

For the second reading, images will then be transferred using the firm's iPACS streaming software simultaneously to a private imaging center and to the University of Poitiers Hospital. The private imaging center also will use CAD for screening, according to RealTimeImage.

Radiology and pathology images, as well as corresponding reports from all locations, will be assembled into a shared mammography patient record, making use of the firm's Mega iPACS offering, according to RealTimeImage.
