Growing demand for PACS will spark growth in the otherwise plateauing market for radiology information systems, according to a report published by market research firm Frost & Sullivan. The U.S. hospital RIS market generated $150.6 million in revenues in 2001, and is projected to reach $163.6 million in 2004, according to the San Jose, CA-based company.
In market trends, text-based RIS products such as film tracking databases, patient scheduling modules, and patient admissions and discharge databases will be increasingly linked with offerings that add PACS capabilities, according to the research firm. Frost & Sullivan also believes the application service provider (ASP) model will become a standard for enterprise radiology information technology.
