Eastman Kodak showcased several new products and services at last week's Symposium for Computer Applications in Radiology.
The Rochester, NY-based firm formally rolled out its healthcare privacy and security services, which are designed to help customers comply with privacy and security regulations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
The vendor also launched Secure Remote Service Access (SRSA) at the Cleveland meeting. Part of Kodak's professional services unit, SRSA employs a virtual private network (VPN) to facilitate remote service and preventive maintenance of Kodak PACS, DR, and CR systems.
In PACS, Kodak showcased work-in-progress software for 3-D imaging, rendering, and measurement applications (from Scottish 3-D firm Voxar) on a diagnostic workstation for volumetric imaging modalities. Integration of a digital dictation software package was also displayed using Kodak's DirectView DX workstation platform.
Kodak also displayed a new version of its Web distribution system, offering support for non-English languages and scout-line navigation. The company said it would release the new version later this month.
In CR enhancements, the firm unwrapped Capture Link System, an option that allows facilities to share patient and exam data among multiple Kodak CR systems. Up to five CR 800 and CR 900 systems, as well as 20 remote operations panels, can be networked, according to Kodak. Wall-mounted panels allow technologists to enter patient/exam/cassette identification, check image quality, and reprocess images if needed before transmission, Kodak said.
Another CR introduction, Software 3.0, offers new features such as user name and password system access, and an "accept all images" button for streamlining the image delivery process. Kodak said it has also enhanced its DICOM worklist software option to allow users to query a single patient record and to equip the PACS broker to transmit patient data records as it receives them to the CR system.
Software 3.0, which also includes new user interface support in Swedish, Norwegian, and Chinese, comes standard on new CR 800 and CR 900 systems, Kodak said. The optional Software 3.0 package offers additional software features such as configurable internal and external text boxes, true-size printing, and automatic grid detection and suppression of line artifacts.
