Sony Electronics highlighted a new line of tape-based and network-attached storage (NAS) systems at the 2002 RSNA meeting in Chicago. The Park Ridge, NJ-based firm's storage offerings include a third-generation version of its advanced intelligent tape (AIT-3) drive, StorStation AIT Library 162, and an NAS appliance.
The AIT drive and StorStation Library 162 offer 100 gigabytes native (260 GB compressed) data capacity, with a native data transfer rate of 12 MB (31 MB compressed), Sony said. StorStation Library 162 includes an internal carousel that provides more than four terabytes of storage capacity in two rack units.
StorStation yields 480 GB of capacity and gigabit Ethernet connectivity, and can be bundled with AIT libraries to perform network-based backup and file sharing, Sony said. Sony's new storage technology is available through its authorized medical integrators.
