Digital imaging and system integration provider SunPoint Systems unveiled its Universal Medical Imager (UMI), a computerized image viewbox, at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference in New Orleans last month.
According to the Fairfax, VA-based firm, the UMI is a portable medical viewbox that enables physicians and patients to view and manipulate all types of digital medical images from CDs/DVDs. The UMI consists of a high-resolution screen with an on-board computer that shows electronic images downloaded on the device itself. It also functions as a conventional white-screen illuminator that can be used to view traditional x-ray and MRI hard copies.
Although not operating as part of a health information network, the UMI can access information from a PACS, RIS, EMR system, or other healthcare application through WiFi connectivity, according to SunPoint.
