NEMA publishes DICOM 2007 standards for digital imaging

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance (MITA) has published DICOM 2007 Standards for Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM).

The standard is a 16-part set of rules that establishes a single language for exchanging digital images and related information, such as a patient's name, a reason for the procedure, and instrument used. It applies to both network environments and offline media.

The 2007 edition includes updates to previous versions and contains three new supplements that address segmentation storage of service-object pair (SOP) class, deformable spatial registration storage for SOP class, and e-mail transport.

Electronic copies of DICOM 2007 are available for free. Hard copies are available for purchase (priced individually) by clicking here. The full set may be purchased for $999 at www.nema.org or by contacting the printer at 800-854-7179 within the U.S., 303-397-7956 for international calls, by fax at 303-397-2740, or online at www.global.ihs.com.
