Merge loss doubles on dip in Q1 sales

Healthcare IT and advanced visualization software developer Merge Healthcare reported that its net loss for the first quarter of 2007 doubled, while revenues dropped slightly.

For the period (end-March 31), the Milwaukee company posted sales of $15.7 million, down 3% compared with revenues of $16.2 million in the first quarter of 2006. The company had a net loss for the most recent quarter of $10.1 million, compared with a net loss of $4.9 million in the corresponding quarter of 2006.

The company said it continues to pursue its restructuring effort and the integration of its Merge and Cedara operations, and expects to return to profitability in the fourth quarter of this year.

In other Merge news, the company said it reached a deal to install its Fusion aXigate electronic patient record product at Colmar General Hospital in France.
