Graphic-processor developer NVIDIA of Santa Clara, CA, is collaborating with Planar Systems of Beaverton, OR, to produce high-contrast, 10-bit grayscale display systems for use in mammography and other medical applications.
Rather than developing specialty hardware, the two companies employ a method of "pixel packing" to permit 10- or 12-bit grayscale data to be transmitted from a NVIDIA Quatro graphics board to a Planar Dome display using a standard DVI cable.
Both companies are featuring the combined system at this week's RSNA 2007 meeting in Chicago.
