eHealth adds image exchange to Rochester RHIO

Medical record services provider eHealth Global Technologies of Rochester, NY, has implemented its eHealthConnect Image Exchange service for the Rochester Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO), enabling the RHIO to transfer diagnostic images.

The Rochester RHIO provides secure electronic health information exchange to medical providers in eight upstate New York counties. The new service will connect the PACS of eight radiology providers and will be integrated with the RHIO's information exchange system (Elysium, Axolotl, San Jose, CA). Lakeside Memorial Hospital, a 181-bed healthcare facility located in Brockport, is the first healthcare provider to integrate its PACS into the eHealthConnect Image Exchange.

Images are retrieved from individual PACS at each facility through an edge server that does not affect user licenses or Web performance of the PACS. In addition to automating access to images, the image exchange will cache 30 days of exams at its central data facility and provide the ability to pull older exams on demand. A single DICOM viewer provided by eHealth will be used by clinicians to view the images requested from the Web-based health information exchange system.
