Dear PACS Insider,

Even though there's been quite a bit of research investigating the utility of lossy compression technology, relatively few efforts have provided specific clinical recommendations for its use. That's been changing lately, however.

Following up on recent work that led to lossy compression guidelines in Canada and the U.K., a group in Germany met last year to develop its own recommendations. The conference, which included 90 attendees from a variety of backgrounds, resulted in consensus recommendations for a range of clinical applications.

Dr. Reinhard Loose of Hospital Nuremberg-North in Germany presented the results of the conference during a scientific session at the 2009 European Congress of Radiology (ECR) in Vienna.

Our coverage of the ECR talk is this month's Insider Exclusive, which you have access to before it's published for the rest of our AuntMinnie.com members. To learn more about the German lossy compression recommendations, click here.
