Ex-health IT czar's firm makes imaging investment

An investment firm run by former U.S. healthcare IT czar Dr. David Brailer has made its second investment in a medical imaging services company.

Brailer's Health Evolution Partners of San Francisco has made an investment in Optimal Reading Services Group, a teleradiology firm based in Homewood, AL. The investment will enable Optimal to accelerate its expansion throughout the U.S. and to target select international markets.

Health Evolution Partners last month announced an investment in Foundation Radiology Group of Pittsburgh through a partnership with venture capital firm Chrysalis Ventures of Louisville, KY.

Brailer said that Health Evolution will continue to seek out "transformative" companies in medical imaging and other healthcare sectors. He added that the growth in medical imaging costs is unsustainable, and that downward reimbursement pressure will disrupt long-standing economic practices in the industry.
