A front-end tool loaded on all of the institution's clinical workstations, EIMS allows physicians to load and view the content of any DICOM CD or DVD, according to presenter Dr. Rasu Shrestha, medical director of digital imaging informatics.
In addition, physicians can also select specific studies to import into the enterprise PACS. A PACS-independent storage repository set up for these images also enables them to be viewable on a Web-based platform almost immediately by the care team, Shrestha said.
Among other features, EIMS allows referring physicians to receive a secure URL to push relevant prior studies to the system, according to Shrestha.
"EIMS also readies our hospitals with the next wave of external image management demands -- which will go beyond the manual transportation of CDs -- and enables the automatic secure transfer of patient studies from an external PACS or modalities, or even [personal health records] directly to our hospital's archives, such that the entire process is highly streamlined, and the studies end up in the hands of our subspecialist radiologists and ED physicians even before the patient arrives at our doorsteps," he told AuntMinnie.com.
