DatCard files lawsuits over medical disk patents

Software developer DatCard Systems of Irvine, CA, has brought suits against two competitors it alleges are infringing on its medical disk publishing patents.

DatCard Systems has filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against PACS accessories firm PACSGear of Pleasanton, CA, and archiving distributor Data Distributing of Santa Cruz, CA.

In the lawsuits, DatCard asks the court to prevent the two firms from infringing on seven patents. The patents cover aspects of computer systems that record DICOM medical images and other related data onto portable digital storage devices. Key technology covered by the patents facilitates the sharing of medical information with healthcare providers and patients, according to DatCard.
