Dear AuntMinnie Member,
Consolidation hit two of the largest players in teleradiology this week as Virtual Radiologic and NightHawk Radiology Services announced they would be joining forces.
Virtual Radiologic said it would pay $170 million for NightHawk in an acquisition that creates by far the largest player in the teleradiology market. The deal comes as teleradiology firms are facing a maturing market and struggling to decide whether to compete with their longtime customers -- local radiology groups -- or stay true to their original mission of providing services that supplement a community practice.
The deal has already been hit with shareholder litigation from several firms apparently not satisfied with the 100% premium Virtual Radiologic is paying for NightHawk. Learn more by clicking here, or visit our PACS Digital Community at pacs.auntminnie.com.
Reports from ASNC, RBMA meetings
In other news, a pair of conferences is going on this week, with the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC) annual meeting taking place in Philadelphia and the Radiology Business Management Association (RBMA) meeting convening in Austin, TX.
From the ASNC show, learn how Canadian researchers demonstrated that it's feasible to use FDG-PET/CT to detect signs of vulnerable aortic plaque that could rupture and cause a heart attack. Find out more by clicking here, or visit our Molecular Imaging Digital Community at molecular.auntminnie.com.
From the RBMA show, learn more about some of the options available for having your imaging facility accredited. It's not something you can put off -- all healthcare providers that bill for the technical component of Medicare will have to be accredited by January 2012.
