Software developer PeerVue of Sarasota, FL, will use the 2010 RSNA meeting to introduce its Qualitative Intelligence and Communication System (QICS), an automated quality assurance reporting system to track a healthcare facility's performance and alert physicians to impending quality-related problems.
QICS draws information from HIS, RIS, and PACS networks to monitor and provide real-time reports on a facility's workflow, according to the vendor.
It applies customized business rules to prevent problems, such as scheduling new CT exams on patients who have already been exposed to an extraordinary amount of ionizing radiation during previous exams. It also helps resolve discrepancies identified during peer review or communications between ER and radiology departments, PeerVue said.
Tracking systems in the software ensure that critical results are communicated to and acknowledged by the appropriate physicians. QICS is also designed to foster continual quality improvement by providing performance feedback to technologists, peer review for radiologists, and proctoring for residents. It also alerts radiologists and administrative staff about billing and procedural coding issues that could affect the performance of the radiology department or group practice.
