Imaging software developer DataPhysics Research has unveiled CaseReader, a postprocessing software package for CT, PET/CT, and MR image data.
Laid over existing PACS software and viewing applications, CaseReader manages 2D image data, produces volumetric 3D images, and streamlines the review and reporting workflow process, according to the San Ramon, CA-based firm. The company claims that CaseReader can reduce the time and cost of processing and interpreting image data by up to 50%.
CaseReader is comprised of three technologies: Augmentor, Anatomy Image Dashboard (AID), and Active Report (AR). Augmentor captures and consolidates patient information from multiple sources, digitizes it, and makes it available for the radiologist to review, DataPhysics said.
AID creates a computerized, scalable, 3D electronic map of anatomical elements that is constructed from 2D slices generated by CT, PET/CT, and MRI systems. The image data can be displayed in axial image formats and also in sagittal and coronal multiplanar reconstructions. As each 2D slice is viewed, the corresponding 3D image is displayed simultaneously, according to the firm.
AR customizes reports to the referring physician's specifications and employs observation templates tied to CPT codes to ensure that all required anatomy-specific impressions are completed and notated, the company said. Embedded 2D and 3D images can also be included for communicating results to referring physicians and patients.
DataPhysics said that it is collaborating with PACS OEMs to embed CaseReader in their systems. Currently in beta testing, CaseReader will be available via a hybrid software-as-a-service (SAAS) model; a fee is generated only when a radiologist uses the software.
General availability is expected in the first quarter of 2011. The research and development efforts are supported by a two-year grant from the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) and its Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery Project program, the company said.
