PACS virtual conference starts today; radiology makes meaningful use appeal

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

Our new virtual conference, PACS in an Age of Change Spring Edition, starts today, May 17, bringing you presentations on some of the hottest topics in imaging informatics, all delivered in a unique virtual environment.

We've partnered with the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) for the event, which is designed to help you understand where PACS is headed and how new technologies can help you survive in today's changing environment.

You'll hear from top-notch speakers on issues including cloud computing, mobile devices such as iPods and iPads, and how radiology can secure "meaningful use" stimulus funding from the federal government.

The doors of our virtual exhibit hall open today at 10 a.m. EDT, and the first presentation begins at 11 a.m. EDT. Registration is free, and you can even win one of many great prizes for attending, such as Apple iPad 2s. Sign up now at pacsspring.auntminnie.com.

Radiology makes meaningful use appeal

Speaking of meaningful use, radiology advocates had one final chance last week to make their case before the federal workgroup that's crafting the next stage of meaningful use requirements that healthcare providers need to meet to qualify for federal stimulus funding.

In a May 13 meeting, members of the Meaningful Use Workgroup of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology heard from members of medical specialties on the criteria for stage 2 of meaningful use. Workgroup members got an earful, especially given the perception that the draft stage 2 guidelines favored primary care physicians over specialists.

Will the hearing affect what the workgroup submits in its final stage 2 proposal in June? We don't know about that, but you can read about radiology's pitch to the group by clicking here, or visit our Healthcare IT Digital Community at healthcareit.auntminnie.com.
