Dear PACS Insider,
Importing outside prior imaging studies used to be a time-consuming and labor-intensive process at U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare facilities. But that's no longer the case.
After developing their own image importer application, researchers from the VA were able to trim manual input times that ranged from 10 to 30 minutes down to less than a minute. You can find out how they were able to do it in our review of the VA's Journal of Digital Imaging paper, which is the subject of this month's PACS Insider Exclusive. You can access it before the rest of our AuntMinnie.com members by clicking here.
In other developments, veteran PACS consultant and PACS Digital Community contributor Michael J. Cannavo recently took a position at a PACS vendor, ending his longstanding role as the PACSman. But before he made the move, Mike contributed one last edition of his popular Building a Better PACS series.
In "Part 8 -- Final lessons learned," Mike shares the top lessons he's learned during his 28 years as a PACS consultant. You can find it here. On behalf of the PACS Digital Community, I'd also like to thank Mike again for all of his invaluable contributions over the years and wish him the best in his new endeavor.
In other feature PACS articles, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently proposed a guidance for its review of mobile medical applications. Associate editor Cynthia Keen had our coverage, which you can access here.
Also, Dr. Rajashakher Reddy, founder of teleradiology services provider Reddy Solutions (RSI), was found guilty last month of 29 counts of fraud related to "ghosting" activities. The details can be found by clicking clicking here.
