At the 2009 RSNA meeting, a team from the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Laboratory for Medical Imaging Informatics in Shanghai presented a prototype search engine for an integrated RIS/PACS. Now that the search engine has been in clinical use for three years at Huadong Hospital in Shanghai, the researchers are returning to Chicago to share that experience.
Since its installation in 2010, the engine has been used to search and retrieve an average of more than 30 cases a day. The search engine is used for decision support, research, and educational purposes, said presenter Jianguo Zhang, PhD.
"The junior radiologists and residents like to use this search engine and got benefits from this system in their diagnostic service, training, and research," Zhang told AuntMinnie.com.
