In this scientific session, representatives of a community-based outpatient radiology practice will describe how they achieved meaningful use under the U.S. government's Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program in 2012.

Through the use of a cloud-based EHR from DR Systems, the Cottage Center for Advanced Imaging successfully attested for meaningful use (MU) in 2012 and, as a result, received the incentive payment. The system supports single-click access to MU data contained in the digital requisition, allowing radiologists to leverage this information in real-time as they are reading the study, said co-author Dr. Michael Trambert.

"In particular, the problem list and smoking history data are very important to have access to, and can be very relevant and valuable clinically," Trambert said. "This efficient, seamless integration of MU into our PACS results in truly meaningful use of our MU data and implementation."

The Cottage system also leverages a cloud-based patient health record (Health Companion), which provides electronic access to the patient's summary and supports current and future patient engagement, Trambert said.

"Patient engagement is critical for patient education, and for competitive purposes," Trambert said.
