Sectra earnings increase in fiscal Q2

Powered by positive earning trends in its imaging IT solutions unit, PACS firm Sectra's net profit after tax rose nearly 50% in its 2013/2014 fiscal second quarter.

For the period (end-October 31), Sectra had net sales of 198.3 million Swedish krona ($30.1 million U.S.), a 2.8% increase from the 192.7 million Swedish krona ($29.2 million U.S.) reported in the fiscal second quarter of 2012/2013. The company had quarterly profit after tax of 25.1 million Swedish krona ($3.8 million U.S.), up from 16.9 million Swedish krona ($2.6 million U.S.) last year.

A 27.7% drop in order bookings during the quarter was attributed to several factors, including a less-positive market in the U.S., Sectra said. On the bright side, order bookings continue to increase from healthcare clients in the U.K. and the Netherlands, the company said.

Sectra also noted that a growing proportion of sales is being derived from long-term agreements with customers who purchase medical IT systems as a service.
