Nuance Communications has acquired Accelarad, in the process rebranding that company's cloud-based image-sharing network.
Nuance announced on April 17 that it had acquired Accelarad and was formally rebranding Accelarad's flagship business as Nuance PowerShare Network. The offering is designed to securely connect physicians, patients, government agencies, specialty medical societies, and others to share medical images and reports.
The network is used by more than 1,900 provider organizations for sharing images via the cloud using open standards, according to the company. The network is intended to eliminate the cost and insecure process of managing images on CDs and remove silos of information that may limit efficiency and quality of care.
Anyone can join the network, regardless of IT systems, to view and manage images needed to consult, diagnose, or treat patients.
