Medical informatics and vendor-neutral archive (VNA) provider TeraMedica has installed its Evercore VNA at the public health system in New South Wales, Australia.
The technology will enable the large health information exchange (HIE) to share images and digital medical records across numerous local government health districts, with 110 clinical facilities serving a patient population of more than 7 million people, according to TeraMedica.
The system connects nine different PACS and processes more than 3 million imaging procedures annually in an area as large as the state of Texas, the company said. All facilities participating in the HIE will use their own clinical IT applications, including PACS, RIS, and electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
Implemented by the government agency HealthShare NSW, the multiphase project was launched in late 2010 with numerous sites going live since February 2012, TeraMedica said. Eventually, the Evercore VNA will provide a gateway to the national government's master patient index in order to reconcile all patient identifiers and support complete integrated EMRs across Australia, according to the vendor.
