Tablets are increasingly being implemented in medicine and within training programs. As a knowledge and technology-based specialty, radiology would seem uniquely suited to the introduction of the technology, said presenter Dr. Evan Johnson.
After deciding to implement a large-scale tablet computing program in support of radiology resident education, the researchers sought to obtain metrics to determine the efficacy of the program. Residents were surveyed before and after receiving their iPad Air tablets.
"Tablet computing provides endless possibilities for radiology practice as well as education, but fully realizing those possibilities can be difficult," Johnson said. "Once having implemented a tablet computing program, it behooves departmental administration to regularly evaluate utilization to efficiently direct the program."
In a subsequent talk during the same session (VSIN21-07, 11:00 a.m.-11:10 a.m.), Johnson will emphasize the importance of an interdisciplinary approach for the successful implementation of tablet-computing programs.
