Fujifilm Medical Systems USA announced that Johann Fernando, PhD, has joined the firm as its new chief operating officer (COO), while Dr. Diku Mandavia has been named chief medical officer (CMO).
Fernando will provide day-to-day leadership and management for sales, the medical informatics and modality solutions divisions, business operations, and service to help achieve the company's sales and profitability goals and establish sustainable growth. He will also lead the effort to expand Fuji's healthcare IT business and drive collaboration across business units.
Fernando has worked in positions of increased responsibility and leadership at Picker & Marconi Medical Systems, Agilent Technologies, ADAC Labs, and Philips Healthcare. Most recently, he was vice president and general manager for Accuray.
Mandavia will provide strategic leadership for the healthcare portfolio efforts by overseeing a growing list of activities related to patient care, medical professional networking, and health systems interaction. He joined Fujifilm SonoSite as a medical advisor in 2007, is a clinical associate professor of emergency medicine at the University of Southern California, and was an attending staff physician at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
He is also a founding member and past chair of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Ultrasound Section, has taught thousands of physicians worldwide, has lectured at more than 150 national and international conferences, has contributed to more than 90 publications, and is co-director of the National Resuscitation Conference.
