RIS and PACS vendor Image Information Systems launched Med-Tab, a portable DICOM-calibrated medical image display at RSNA 2015.
Med-Tab is a medical display in the form of a tablet, according to the company. It can be used for bedside image analysis, in surgery theaters, by on-call radiologists, and in emergency situations.
The device provides DICOM grayscale calibration not available previously in portable devices, the firm noted. It includes a calibrator and a calibration app to adjust grayscales and to check screen calibration. It also has an antiglare display with patented 11-bit DICOM GSDF hardware grayscale calibration and fixed calibrated brightness of approximately 300 cd/m2.
Med-Tab also offers screen adaptability, a measuring pen, and DICOM-compatibility. Users can work in a normal way from almost anywhere, using a Philips SpeechMike device, as if they were at a typical workstation.
An HDMI port can connect the device to a larger display, such as a data projector, for peer sharing. An integrated ambient light sensor provides an indicator whether surrounding light is appropriate for image analysis, the firm said.
The screen is also 69% larger than the iPad Air 2 and 67% larger than the Galaxy Tab 4, according to the company. Med-Tab runs with the Android 4.4 operating system and supports most major PACS vendors using HTML5 zero-footprint technology from Image Information Systems. It is available with Image Information's iQ-4VIEW zero-footprint DICOM viewer.
