The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) have reported progress with their HIMSS-SIIM Enterprise Imaging Workgroup.
In its first year of operation, the workgroup has published seven white papers on a range of enterprise imaging topics:
- Enterprise Imaging Governance: Needs, Models, and Intents to Consider
- The Current State and Path Forward for Enterprise Image Viewing
- A Foundation for Enterprise Imaging
- Orders Versus Encounters-Based Image Capture: Implications Pre- and Postprocedure Workflow, Technical and Build Capabilities, Resulting, Analytics, and Revenue Capture
- Workflow Challenges of Enterprise Imaging
- Technical Challenges of Enterprise Imaging
- Considerations for Exchanging and Sharing Medical Images for Improved Collaboration and Patient Care
Announced in August 2014, the workgroup offers a platform for sharing enterprise imaging strategies and creating awareness that images -- from radiology, cardiology, and other areas -- are an essential part of the electronic health record, according to the societies. Specifically, the workgroup aims to provide education, support standards development, address current challenges, and develop tools to accommodate the changing environment that expands the imaging domain across the healthcare enterprise, HIMSS and SIIM said.
Summaries of the white papers can be found here. The HIMSS-SIIM workgroup is also holding a meet-up at next week's HIMSS meeting on March 2 from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. PST at the HIMSS Spot.
