Dear AuntMinnie Member,
Has PACS ruined radiology? That provocative question is burning up the Twitterverse this week in the wake of an article that sees the effect of PACS on radiology as a warning sign to the rest of a healthcare industry seemingly hell-bent on digitization.
In the article, Dr. Robert Wachter of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) describes the changes that PACS has wrought on radiology since its arrival 15 years ago. An internal medicine physician and chair of the department of medicine at UCSF, Dr. Wachter has watched with dismay as PACS led to the isolation and alienation of radiologists -- who were once described as the "physician's physicians."
Is the situation in radiology really that dire? Can anything be done about it? And what lessons does it offer to the rest of healthcare? Read more by clicking here, or visit our Imaging Informatics Community at informatics.auntminnie.com.
Congratulations, Minnies winners
Fortunately, there are still a lot of great things about radiology, as exemplified by the winners of this year's Minnies competition for excellence in radiology.
We announced the final winners this week as the culmination of an exhaustive eight-week process involving nominations from our members and multiple votes by our expert panel. In the end, the panel selected 15 winners in categories ranging from Most Influential Radiology Researcher to Best Radiology Image.

That's not a sex toy
In the next installment of #MyRadGirlfriend, Andy makes a surprising discovery while covering the emergency room one night. Fortunately, Ryan does some "teleradiology" consulting of his own. Find out what happens next by clicking here.
