Software developer Pegasus Imaging has released the latest iteration of its medical image compression toolkit, PicTools Medical. The Tampa, FL-based company’s product is a FDA 510(k) approved medical imaging library of compression and decompression tools.
The toolkit features Intel Corp. Pentium III speed optimizations, image delivery protocol (IDP) wavelet compression, support for 24-bit lossless JPEG and 12-bit gray lossy JPEG, wavelet decompression to thumbnail size, and region-of-interest viewing.
The PicTools Medical upgrade is available at no charge to customers under current service contracts with Pegasus. The lossy JPEG suite will retail for $4,500 (U.S.), the lossless suite is priced at $6,500, and the wavelet library will list for $8,000. A 15% discount is available on a bundled version of all three libraries, according to Will Clonts, the company’s medical business development manager.
