American Medical Resources has filed for FDA clearance for its FilmSaver software, which is designed to help imaging facilities save money on film printing costs. The Wilmington, DE, company estimates that facilities using FilmSaver will be able to cut their film printing costs by 33%-50%.
FilmSaver uses a patented software algorithm to remove unnecessary information, such as empty black space, from a diagnostic image before it’s printed. This enables users to reconstruct a sheet of film with more images on each page, at the original size, than were previously possible.
FilmSaver will reduce archiving costs and camera and processor wear and tear, AMR said. The software works with CT and MRI scanners, and is slated for release by the fourth quarter of this year.
