Display provider Planar Systems posted sales of $57.2 million for its fiscal 2006 first quarter (end-December 30, 2005), down 9% compared with sales of $63 million for the same period last year.
However, the Beaverton, OR-based firm booked net income for its first quarter of $1.5 million, a steep increase from the $28,000 in net income shown for the first quarter of fiscal 2005.
Planar's medical segment recorded first-quarter sales of $18 million, up 1% sequentially and down approximately 13% compared to the first quarter a year ago. The firm said it expects to have the first medically certified 4-megapixel diagnostic color monitor on the market. In addition, Planar said the six new products introduced at the 2005 RSNA last November will begin shipping in its second and third fiscal quarters.
