Memorial service held for Dr. Helen Redman

A memorial service is being held today for Dr. Helen C. Redman, professor and vice chairman of academic affairs in the department of radiology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, who died on March 13 after a long illness. She was 64 years old.

Dr. Redman was a past president of the Radiological Society of North America, and a member of the American College of Radiology Boards of Trustees and Chancellors. Among her many awards and honors, she recently received gold medals from the RSNA (2000) and the Society for Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology (SCVIR, 2000). She was also an honorary member of the Royal College of Surgeons (U.K.), the British Institute of Radiology, and the European Congress of Radiology.

Dr. Redman's contributions to radiology ranged from dedicated service in local, state, national, and international activities, to significant clinical and research accomplishments, including co-authorship of Gastrointestinal Radiology, now in its third edition and required reading for several generations of students. As a founding fellow of SCVIR, she worked to establish sub-certification and accreditation of fellowship training in cardiovascular and interventional radiology, effectively securing a firm footing for the new subspecialty.

The memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 17, at the A.W. Harris Faculty Club on the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center campus in Dallas.
