Hologic to market DirectRay systems

Hologic of Bedford, MA, has announced a new organizational structure for marketing its DirectRay flat-panel digital x-ray systems. The company also announced the introduction of two general radiography systems based on DirectRay technology.

Hologic acquired Direct Radiography Corp. (DRC), the developer of DirectRay, in June 1999. Effective immediately, Hologic will assume responsibility for designing, integrating, marketing and servicing DirectRay systems. DRC will continue to be responsible for designing, manufacturing and servicing DirectRay detectors.

At this month's RSNA meeting in Chicago, Hologic added two new digital radiography systems to its product line, including the high-end Epex system and the Radex general radiography system. The first clinical installations of both products are planned for mid-2000, and will join the company's current digital x-ray offering, DR1000.

In other Hologic news, the company announced the introduction of its new Delphi QDR series bone densitometer. According to the company, the system enables the simultaneous integration and assessment of the two strongest risk factors for osteoporotic fractures: existing vertebral fractures and low bone density. The system utilizes low-dose fan-beam x-ray technology in a system designed to enable rapid visual interpretation of vertebral status.
