Instrumentarium to buy C-arm firm Ziehm

Instrumentarium today announced that it is acquiring Ziehm, a German manufacturer of surgical C-arms. Instrumentarium executives said the deal is part of the Helsinki, Finland, company’s plan to grow its activities in the surgical C-arm segment.

Instrumentarium executives said the surgical C-arm market is increasing at double-digit rates because of the growth of image-guided surgery. Instrumentarium already has a small surgical C-arm business, but acquiring Ziehm will give the company much more heft in the niche. Ziehm had revenues of $22.7 million in 1998.

Following completion of the purchase, Ziehm will be merged into Instrumentarium’s imaging division, while Instrumentarium’s surgical C-arm R&D and manufacturing operations will be transferred to Ziehm facilities. Ziehm maintains locations in Nuremberg, Germany, and Riverside, CA.
