Healthcare information systems vendor Shared Medical Systems has appointed Dr. Donald Rucker as vice president and chief medical officer. Rucker comes to the Malvern, PA-based firm with a clinical informatics background. A practicing physician, Rucker has published research on designing interfaces for clinical applications and integrating expert systems and databases, as well as studies on the development of physician workstations and quality assurance tools. In his new job, Rucker will collaborate with physicians and clinicians, as well as provide strategic direction to SMS on evolving healthcare IT trends and requirements.
