Radiology group Radiology Partners said it has joined the American College of Radiology's (ACR) Radiology Support, Communication, and Alignment Network (R-SCAN) imaging utilization initiative.
R-SCAN is designed to facilitate collaboration between radiologists and referring providers to improve imaging utilization. By joining R-SCAN, Radiology Partners and its referring providers will be able to use a step-by-step plan to improve the ordering of imaging exams based on Choosing Wisely recommendations, according to the group.
Radiology Partners said it plans to examine the Choosing Wisely "Adnexal Cyst Follow Up" topic, which recommends not performing follow-up imaging for clinically inconsequential adnexal cysts in the female pelvis. In addition, the group said it plans to go beyond the requirements by not recommending unnecessary follow-up studies and ensuring that any follow-up is appropriate and aligns with evidence-based medicine and best practices.
To help with recommendations, the firm will also have access to a customized version of the ACR Select clinical decision-support software.
