U.S. senators propose bipartisan Obamacare deal

Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) are proposing a bipartisan agreement to fund a key insurance subsidy program for the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that offers states flexibility to waive some requirements of the law, according to a Politico report.

The deal would finance the ACA's cost-sharing program through 2019 and allow states to use existing waivers to approve insurance plans with "comparable affordability" to ACA plans. However, it would not allow states to avoid the law's minimum requirements for what a health insurance plan must cover.

There's no guarantee the agreement will come before the Senate, according to the article. Alexander and Murray plan to deliver the agreement to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who will determine how and whether to bring it to the Senate floor.
