The Radiological Society of North America this week officially denied that next month's annual conference would be canceled. An e-mail to members stated emphatically that the society's board is "fully committed" to holding the meeting.
The message said the organization was aware of rumors circulating in Europe and the Pacific Rim regarding the cancellation of the meeting, which is scheduled for November 25-30 in Chicago. Related rumors claim that registrations for the meeting are "severely off" and that presenters have been canceling their presentations.
Both rumors are false, according to the Oak Brook, IL, society. "There is NO TRUTH to these rumors," the e-mail said. "The RSNA Board of Directors is fully committed to holding the 2001 RSNA meeting as planned, because the meeting is the premier opportunity for physicians to share their knowledge with one another."
Advance registration for the meeting as of October 19 was running only 3% behind last year's numbers numbers for the same date. And while some presenters have canceled, alternate presentations have been arranged. The RSNA also said that enhanced security measures and emergency preparedness plans have been developed.
