The American College of Radiology (ACR) of Reston, VA, has written a letter to online search giant Google, accusing the Mountain View, CA, company of snubbing radiology when it assembled a health advisory committee that does not include a representative from radiology.
Google recently created a 22-member Google Health Advisory Council to advise the company on health matters of concern to both consumers and healthcare providers. Members of the committee range from physicians to health policy experts to patient advocates, but the list does not include a representative from radiology.
In a July 17 letter to Google, ACR chair Dr. Arl Van Moore said that while the ACR was pleased that Google had created the council, the society found it "unfortunate, and frankly quite puzzling," that Google did not include a representative from radiology.
Van Moore said that radiology has moved into the vanguard of medicine, and he urged Google to invite a representative from radiology to be a member of the council.
