ACR marks 90th anniversary

The American College of Radiology (ACR) celebrated its 90th anniversary on June 26.

Twenty-one radiologists met during the 1923 American Medical Association annual meeting to organize the ACR, the college said. Now the organization is one of the world's largest medical specialty associations.

Programs and guidelines established over the past nine decades include ACR accreditation, practice guidelines and technical standards, continuing medical education, the ACR Clinical Research Center, economic and health policy advocacy, and the Harvey L. Neiman Health Policy Institute, according to the ACR.

"As healthcare evolves, the ACR will serve a vital role in shaping the future of medicine and making future healthcare better," said Dr. Paul Ellenbogen, chair of the ACR's board of chancellors, in a statement.
