More than 20 organizations involved in the Choosing Wisely Massachusetts initiative are participating in a new monthlong awareness campaign targeting the unwarranted use of imaging procedures for lower back pain and persistent headaches.
Led by Massachusetts Health Quality Partners (MHQP), which received a grant for the project from the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Foundation, the collaborative includes patient groups, healthcare providers, payors, and state agencies.
The awareness campaign will feature distribution of educational materials to physicians' offices, health plan members, and other Massachusetts consumers; public policy discussions about the Choosing Wisely campaign; blog postings and other online communications; and a social media campaign, according to MHQP.
