The American Medical Association's (AMA) board of trustees has appointed Dr. William Thorwarth, former president of the American College of Radiology (ACR), as chair of the AMA's Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) Editorial Panel.
The panel is a multispecialty body that maintains CPT nomenclature and code set.
Thorwarth has also chaired the ACR's Economics Commission, and is the first radiologist to lead the panel, according to the AMA. He has been president of the ACR Executive Committee, the Board Nominating Committee, and the Committee on Awards and Honors. Currently he serves as chair of the ACR Practice Expense Committee and the Reference Committee. Thorwarth will begin his term in October 2007.
