Stanford rad tapped as White House Fellow

A radiologist from Stanford University has been tapped as a White House Fellow and Special Assistant to the President, the first radiologist to be appointed to the program, according to the American College of Radiology (ACR) of Reston, VA.

Pat Basu, MD, MBA, attending radiologist at Stanford University and the Palo Alto VA Hospital in California, received the presidential appointment, the ACR announced this week. In addition to being the first radiologist in the program, he is also one of only a few physicians to serve in this role, the ACR said.

Basu serves as course director of health policy, finance, and economics at Stanford. He is a former Rutherford Fellow in the ACR office in Washington, DC.

The White House Fellows program was founded in 1964 and is one of America's most prestigious programs for leadership and public service, according to White House website. White House Fellowships offer young men and women firsthand experience working in the federal government, the site states.
