Startup plans aid to physician inventors

A new medical device product development firm called Hatch Medical has commenced operations, with the goal of working with physician inventors to develop minimally invasive devices for the treatment of vascular disease.

To assist physician inventors, the Atlanta-based firm has put together a team that includes intellectual property and transactional attorneys, biomedical engineers, regulatory affairs consultants, marketing and business development executives, medical device manufacturers, and university teaching hospitals.

Through Hatch’s risk-sharing program, product development team members exchange services and resources for equity in physician-conceived projects. This structure enables the physician inventor to benefit from the services of industry experts without paying up-front costs or out-of-pocket expenses while maintaining meaningful equity, according to Hatch.
